Ask yourself, what do you think is an important part of your fence’s skeleton? Would you agree, it could be the rails? The choice in rails will have a lasting effect on your fences forecasted structure. The 2x4x8 rail, is the vein to your fence. If not, a pressure treated rail, your fence will fail quickly. The most absorbent part of your rail is the ends, this is where rot and decay will more than likely begin. If your lumber is not pressure treated the first cut will automatically open the door for insect infestation and moisture to absorb into your lumber, once the rail decays the screws lose their bite and the fence starts falling apart.
